Students and enthusiasts of martial arts have many reasons for their interest in the martial arts. Some are drawn to the physical fitness aspects of training. Others seek to add discipline and self control to their lives. Still others are concerned about safety and self-defense.
Whether you are interested in our programs for spiritual or physical well being, the Bujinkan Kakure Yama Dojo offers a number of programs that will fit both your training needs and your busy schedule.
Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu
The Bujinkan Dojo “Divine Warrior Training Hall” is Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi’s international organization for teaching the essence of nine ancient Japanese martial traditions. These traditional schools, or ryu, are:
Gikan Ryu Koppojutsu
Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu
Kuki Shinden Ryu Happo Biken
Gyokko Ryu Koshijutsu
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu
Kumagakure Ryu Ninjutsu
Shinden Fudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu
Gyokushin Ryu Ninjutsu
Some of these ryu date back nearly 1,000 years and can be traced through 34 generations of Grandmasters. Three of the ryu are based on the fighting arts and philosophy of Japan’s legendary Ninja Warriors, while some originated with the Samurai Class. All nine ryu retain their original combat essence and warrior skills. The basis of these ryu is known as Budo Taijutsu or “whole body movement.” This concept goes well beyond the idea of simple physical movement. Instead, the goal is to produce a fully developed human being by integrating body, mind and spirit.
While training is roughly broken down into the following three classes at the dojo, students are invited to attend all classes in order to experience the entire scope of training. The breakdown presented below is provided to indicate the general focus of a given class:
Fundamentals of Taijutsu: Designed for beginners, this class focuses on the basic skills necessary for the study of taijutsu. Heavy emphasis is placed on footwork and movement drills; basic strikes, locks and throws; and weapons familiarization.
Waza and Weaponry: This intermediate class covers traditional techiniques of unarmed and armed combat. Emphasis is placed on correct body placement and movement.
Advanced Taijutsu: This class emphasizes effective use of taijutsu in combat situations. Effectiveness is emphasized above form in this class and techniques are generally more painful than in other classes.
DisAbled Protection
This program, headed by Shidoshi Barton Cutter, is designed for those students having disabilities which might hinder normal training methods. The program has been successfully used in training basic self-defense/protection skills to both physically and learning disabled individuals. This training is done in a one-day workshop format by request. For additional information on this program, please contact Barton Cutter @ barton.cutter@gmail.com.
